Phuket International Academy

 

 Phuket International Academy, occupying a valley in the north of the island of Phuket, off the west coast of Thailand, is comprised of three interrelated institutions: Phuket Sports Academy, Phuket International Academy (Day School), and Phuket Mind Research and Development Academy.

The sports academy provides a wide range of facilities for professional athletes from around the world to train and compete. The day school offers state-of-the-art education to children aged 3-18, which will cater to students from Thailand and the international community. The mind research academy is a unique institution established for the purpose of exploring the potentials of the human mind through the interface of scientific research and meditative disciplines. Through the close interaction among these three institutions, the Phuket International Academy focuses on the integrated cultivation of the body, mind, and spirit, such that the whole of the academy is far greater than the sum of its individual parts.

 

 The Phuket Sports Academy is available for the use of students in the day school, and with its adjacent 40-room hotel, it provides lodging and sports facilities for international athletes to train in the triathlon, swimming, gymnastics, tennis, and other sports. The inviting climate and lush environment of this tropical island make it an ideal location for athletes to hone their skills, and students in the day school have the advantage of engaging with world-class athletes to inspire and instruct them in developing their own physical abilities to the fullest extent possible.

 

The Phuket International Academy Day School adopts the “K12 international Curriculum” system to provide students with an unsurpassed, English-language based education that will prepare them to leading productive, meaningful, fulfilled lives in the modern world. The co-educational school is under gradual development, beginning in the first phase with a student body of 350 pupils and in the second phase with a total of 700 pupils. In order to maintain the highest academic standards, classroom sizes will be no larger than 20 students to ensure that each pupil receives the personal attention of their instructors. While academic excellence is a primary concern of the school, strong emphasis is also placed on developing students’ emotional well-being, with a foundation of high ethical standards. While the school does not promote any one religion or ideology, it does seek to develop universally valued qualities of altruism, self-discipline, fortitude, and idealism.

 

The Phuket Mind Research and Development Academy offers a wide range of training to enhance the cognitive and emotional faculties of its participants. The foundation of such training is focused on the development of attention skills, which are needed for all meaningful human endeavors. Methods are also taught for cultivating mindfulness, empathy, compassion, and emotional balance in order to fully unveil the inner resources of the human mind. The academy is housed in a 40-room facility, together with a spacious meeting hall and dining facility, and it also includes a state-of-the art cognitive scientific research laboratory, where leading scientists from around the world explore the effects of such mental training. Insights gained through such research are applied to enhance the education offered in the day school and in the sports academy, while their pedagogical and physical insights also enrich the training provided in the mind research and development academy.
