The SBI Study Group provides an opportunity for local residents who wish to deepen their dharma studies and practice within the support of a group environment. The SBI Study Group is free and open to all dharma students; no registration is required.
The next SBI Study Group on Saturday, June 18th is "Everyday Dharma" with Kimberley Snow and will focus on how to specifically apply Buddhist teachings to everyday life. Drawing on the teachings of Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche, Alan Wallace, Rodney Smith, Ponlop Rinpoche and others, the group will investigate meditation in action, integration through contemplation, and other methods that can directly and immediately impact the way we move in the world and relate to ourselves and others.
Some of the subjects that will be covered include conceptions and misconceptions about Buddhist practice, dealing with fear, vertical and horizontal time, fragmentation and integration, developing curiosity and confidence, and how to make dharma your own. Questions and discussion will be encouraged. Please join us.
These days people often feel that they have very little time to practice meditation, but even just a little bit of practice every day has a powerful positive effect. Sitting for thirty minutes in a quiet space is very helpful, but you can do it whenever and wherever you can. You can meditate while riding the subway to work, while on hold with our phone company, or while waiting for your water to boil. Be practical about it, and just do what works for you.
